huevosed

(huevo 'egg' < Latin ovum 'egg')

   Bentley: 1917. Bentley indicates that this term was probably confined to 1846-1848, the duration of the Mexican-American War. During this time, the verb 'to huevo' meant either to purchase or steal the eggs from a ranch, farm, or poultry yard. The phrase "huevosed the ranche" was coined during this time, and he suggests that it was formed by analogy from "vamoosed the ranche."
